About the race

Vasaloppet is the world’s oldest and largest cross-country ski race, held annually on the first Sunday in March. The 90 km course runs from Sälen to Mora through the snowy forests and open valleys of Dalarna, Sweden. First organised in 1922, it now attracts tens of thousands of skiers each year and forms the core of Sweden’s “En Svensk Klassiker.” The race follows the legendary path taken by Gustav Vasa in 1521 during his flight through Dalarna—an origin story that links sport to national history. The event is part of the Ski Classics long-distance series and allows only classic technique. Despite its large scale, Vasaloppet maintains high standards for track quality, logistics, and timing, and it serves as the highlight of the Vasaloppet Winter Week, which includes shorter races and relays.
