The Stowe Derby is one of the oldest ski races in North America, originating from a friendly challenge in 1945 between Sepp Ruschp, an Austrian skier, and Erling Strom, a Norwegian mountaineer. Competitors race from the top of Mt. Mansfield to Stowe village on a single pair of skis, testing their skiing abilities across varied terrain.
