Dive into the exhilarating waters of Sitka Sound with "Change Your Latitude," a premier open water swimming event in Sitka, Alaska. Test your stamina in solo or relay races spanning 10k, 6.6k, 3.3k, or 1k distances, all set against the stunning backdrop of Sitka National Historical Park. Feel the challenge as you navigate the mid to upper 50s°F waters, perfect for honing your open-water skills. Challenge yourself with the 10k route, looping the scenic course three times, or opt for the 6k or 3k, with two and one laps, respectively. For younger or novice athletes, a 1k swim offers a great introduction. The 10k is open to those 18 and older, while the 6k and 3k are for swimmers 16 and up, and the 1k welcomes competitors of all ages.<br><br>Whether you're a USA Swimming age group participant or an adult athlete, you can compete as a solo entrant, with spots limited to the first 75 for the longest distances, while the 1k race remains open for any number of entries. Wetsuits are advised to combat the cool conditions, with proof of swimming capability required for entry. Exceptions for wetsuits can be made for experienced cold-water swimmers upon approval.<br><br>Expect strong support with kayak assistance throughout the course, ensuring safety and navigation. Remember, no drafting allowed—maintain your independence in the water!
